In the 1990s the Taliban jailed Afghan barbers for offering the ‘Titanic’, a haircut inspired by Leonardo DiCaprio’s in James Cameron’s 1997 epic. What a thrill it is to see DiCaprio in this souped-up re-release, a beautiful boy again (these days he looks like a puggish bit player in a ’30s mob movie). ‘Titanic’ has fared better than his looks, shining up like a new penny in 3D in time for the centenary of the disaster. Yes it’s backside-achingly long with a level of melodrama to make ‘Gone with the Wind’ blush, but distance drifts a puffy cloud of nostalgia over its faults.

We know the story ends badly but Cameron still sweeps us up in the romance between Kate Winslet’s rebellious posh girl and DiCaprio’s steerage kid. The 3D is dazzling, conveying the vastness of the ship in a way that will hit vertigo sufferers in the bladder. So too will Celine Dion’s theme song, which hasn’t improved with age.

  • Apr26Aditya Khanal Sharukh does not need to make it a huge issue. Whoever comes to US must go through the seritucy process, it is a normal procedure. When anyone is busted into seritucy stuff, they may be questioned, the question session may go one hour to nine hour, it all depends on how well you cooperate to the seritucy officials. In the same scenario, john abraham, Salman Khan has also gone through, but they never brought these into media so wildly, Sharukh is a normal passenger only when he goes through the airport, please request to shahrukh not to let his stardom go on top of his head. stardom has nothing to do with seritucy check. Even US president should go through it. Please donot bring minor issue into media,,, shahrukh. we know you are smart in doing advertisement.

  • Nicely non intrusive 3D, mass appeal (about 6 12 ish year old's and guardian NOISILY entered during Fox fanfare, 60 sec later, not a peep for remaining 194 min, bar booby errrrr, titters!) and enjoyed it more than in 1998 (1st and only viewing) but simply too long...a 150 min treatment would have me exclaiming "Excellent!" but as it is, very good. Do I want to see it again soon? no. Next decade? yes. If that sounds like a criticism, it ain't. It's an "event" film that demands the big screen...nothing less. 7+/10

  • Thought it fitting to see the film on the centenary and glad I did.The 3d effects were fantastic, the film has aged very well and it blew me away as it did the first time. Winslett and Di Caprio looked so beautiful and cherubic. An amazing movie, just wish James Cameron would donate all funds raised to the relatives of the 1500 poor souls who perished that night and not line his pockets once again, he hardly needs to!

  • DEAR SIR OR MADAM: It is brilliant. But the real star of this movie, I feel, would be the SPECIAL EFFECTS!!! And Kate Winslett SHOULD have won the Best Actress Oscar. ANY actor could play the part Leonard Thing played. And he was considered dishy in 1997. Even I am better looking and I'm a fat 64-year-old male. REGARDS, DES, WED-APR-11-2012.

  • Should have ticked the stars. It is spectacular to look at in 3D but still torture for many men.

  • The 3D is a bit disorientating and while the film looks all very bright; brand new and spectacular on a big screen it is still a bore to me. It is still probably half an hour too long for my taste and it hits most of the cliches in a plot that has more holes than a Swiss cheese. For me 3 stars. Two for the plot but an extra one for the overall spectacle.
