Shane Carruth’s superb DIY directorial debut ‘Primer’ caused a stir back in 2004, largely because its time-travel plot was so headscratchingly convoluted. He returns with ‘Upstream Color’, one of the most talked about films at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. None of the reviews seem entirely sure what the film is exactly – science fiction, romance, or just a random psychedelic mess? But it does sound fascinating, dealing with a woman whose abduction by a small-time thief brings her into contact with a mysterious being that seems to exist within all life.
