When teen stars turn serious

Ten young actors come of age on the silver screen

  • Daniel Radcliffe in ‘The Woman in Black’ (2012)

    Made his name with:
The Harry Potter series (2001-2011), in which Radcliffe played the titular teen wizard and won the hearts of the entire cinemagoing world.

    Got serious with:
The Woman in Black’, in which Radcliffe starred as fully grown up lawyer Arthur Kipps (he’s even got a kid!) sent to sell a potentially haunted mansion. To be fair, this wasn’t Radcliffe’s first shot at serious acting – he’d been infamously nude on the Broadway stage in ‘Equus’ – but it was the most high profile.

    How did it pan out?
So far, so good: ‘The Woman in Black’ was a solid hit, thanks in large part to Radcliffe’s presence. He may have seemed a teensy bit uneasy, but with an upcoming role as Allen Ginsberg (!) in the thriller ‘Kill Your Darlings’, Radcliffe seems determined not to backslide into family fare.
