When teen stars turn serious
Ten young actors come of age on the silver screen

-
Robert Pattinson in ‘Cosmopolis’ (2012)
Made his name with:
The ‘Twilight’ series (2008-2013), in which the former model played sparkly teen vampire Edward Cullen, though he’d already broken a few tweener hearts as the doomed Cedric Diggory in ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ (2005).
Got serious with:
‘Cosmopolis’ (2012), in the lead role of Eric Packer, an obnoxious Wall Street jackal taking a long, incident-packed drive through New York as the world goes to hell in a handcart.
How did it pan out?
Pattinson has shown solid skills as a dramatic actor, and he seems committed to becoming more than just a vampire pin-up. So if ‘Cosmopolis’ wasn’t exactly a masterpiece, upcoming roles in serious films (including Werner Herzog’s ‘Queen of the Desert’) should sweep away any lingering doubts.
Robert Pattinson films
-
Twilight
Its character-based index of longing and protectiveness at least provides a viable moodscape.
-
Water for Elephants
The film offers a life lesson for pet owners: next time your animal plays up, try talking to it in Polish.
-
Cosmopolis
There’s a consistent air of charged, end-of-days menace running through the film.
