A female student at a Tokyo uni falls for a mysterious classmate, a shape-shifter descended from wolves. When she’s left to raise their two kids, however, the fact that brother and sister can turn into wolf-cubs drives the family to a mountain farm – though even here they face a troubledfuture. This anime feature takes an intriguing premise and does little with it. The detailed Ghibli-esque visuals are decent enough, but this is disappointingly bland.

You call this a review? I've seen YouTube rants better written than this sorry little paragraph. No wonder I've never heard of this website before. "This anime feature takes an intriguing premise and does little with it." Like someone else said, care to explain how it didn't properly utilize its premise or why it was bland? I would rate this movie higher than at least two of the most highly acclaimed Studio Ghibli movies. It was that good.

Amazing film, great plot, and outstanding animation. Better than anything Disney have put up in a while, I can't believe the review Johnston gave it. The fact is, this film has great emotion, wonderful scenery, and great characters. After 10 minutes I stopped thinking them as pictures, and felt for them as real people. I don't think we even saw the same film! How can you give 2 star for this masterpiece?! Great work from Mr Hosoda, yet again. If you haven't seen his previous film, the girls who leapt through time, I would guarantee it won't disappoint. Animation: 9.5/10 Storyline: 9/10 Background scenery: 10/10 (Amazing background) Character personality: 10/10 Overall: 9.6/10

Ok. So you give this film a weak review. And thats fine everyone has an opinion. What is B.S. ABOUT your review is the fact that you barely even talk about it. One paragraph. The heck. If you didnt like it. Explain. This feels like. Ohhh its animation. No. This is anime. This film is beautiful and you need to watch it again to see that. Half of my screening cried at the end. Hardly a boring movie

I have to disagree with Mr Johnston on this one, as I think this is one of the best films I've seen the whole year! Change the shape-shifting to any disability of your choice and you have a lyrical accounting of single parenting, when no one else understand, wants or even can help. And ultimately, understanding that your kid has their own ways, which might not agree with what the parents wants or expects from them. Animation is beautiful, the storytelling is superb and the way the theme is exposed is meant to move anyone with a heart. Scarlett - there's a Mamoru Hosoda fans page on Facebook, where they announced that there are plans for a theatrical retrospective of the director. Something I'm definitely looking forward to.

I took my 9year old to this and we both loved it. It is a beautiful, moving film with a lot to say to any child who sometimes feels that they do not fit the mould, and about what it is to be a parent too. We are big fans of studio ghibli and I wondered whether this would feel pale in comparison. It is different - less magical - but wonderful in its own way. A lovely gentle pace too. Big recommend - I just wonder whether it is going to get a general release? Seek it out.
