In this world-famous photograph Italian runner Dorando Pietri, competing in the marathon, is helped by two officials. He had run the wrong way and collapsed several times before crossing the finishing line. But he was disqualified for receiving outside help. Following public sympathy Queen Alexander presented him with a gold cup as a consolation prize.
