  • 'Sugar Rush' returns to Channel 4 for second series

  • This Brighto-set teen drama, with characters based on Julie Burchill's novel, gets a second series that starts tonight. Olivia Hallinan was very well cast in the central role of Kim. It's her likeable portrayal of the troubled young lesbian finding her feet in a confusing new world that makes 'Sugar Rush' enjoyable. With her as a central pivot, it doesn't matter so much that the characters around her remain cartoonish. The plotting and the script are meant to be a light-hearted take onserious matters, which is okay for a series that runs at half an hour per episode. It's the scheduling that's most confusing - surely at this time most of the target audience will be in bed?

I was so pleased to see Olivia back on Tv in Lark Rise to Candleford, she was superb and Sarah Jane in ITV's You Can Choose your Friends. To put it in a nice way, Chloe had a bit of Saint in her especially in the scene where she winds up Ian Snell's Sister by pretending to fancy her.

Hi there My best friend Martin got me hooked on Sugar Rush. He showed me the first series on DVD and I was smitten. I have never laughed so much after seeing the episode where Kim accidentally picked up "CRABS" off Sugar. and Stella nearly choking on Nathan Summer fruit pudding whilst daughter was in bed next door with Tom while fantasising about Sugar.
As for the second series..I was just bowled over when I first saw Sarah Jane Potts as Sexy Saint. Both were fantastically acted by all the cast, especially the three central girls.
    WE LOVE YOU!

    MAT!!! GET A LIFE!

This is one of the best programs on TV, it's a shame it has finished. I think Saint is so hot.

As a gay man, i love it!!!! It is a dyke version of "Queer as Folk" which helped made gay guys more mainstream!!!!
    Lovin' it.

The writers of As If are behind Sugar Rush, hence the similarity.
This is an excellent series, it is incredibly watchable, and very very funny.
We are halfway through the second series now, and I can only hope we get a third!!
    Brilliant!

    Dear Julie Burchill
I would like to thank you for writing and making a TV show possible on channel four called Sugar Rush, I think its fantastic !!!! The stars are all sexy to watch and entertaining as well.

I hope this show continues for a long time, and also hope you don’t at any point cut out of the scenes these three sexy women called Sugar, the other with ginger hair and her sexy short haired girlfriend they all look good together in your storylines and I think you would do a big mistake to cut any one of them out from your storylines.
I think there should be more TV shows for gay women accepted and out in the open without being afraid as humans with just as rights as everyone else to be happy.

In the real world out there theirs plenty of women still afraid to open-up to ask out sexy women they may come across so its not just teens.

    Keep up your good work.
