This swish archetypal white-terraced South Kensington street is a great setting for a hotel. The Aster has become an award-winner through attention to detail (like impeccable housekeeping, the mobile phone guests can borrow, and the introduction of wireless internet and flatscreen TVs) and the warmth of its managers, Leona and Simon Tan.
It’s all low-key, comfortably soothing creams with touches of dusty rose and muted green. Star of the show is the plant-filled conservatory that serves as a breakfast room and guest lounge – star, that is, after Ollie and Cordelia, the resident ducks.
