London County Hall Travel Inn Capital

You know that design hotels have become positively mainstream when the Travel Inn chain starts imitating the Metropolitan. Since last year, this busy branch has banished its bland, hospital-esque lobby. Style gurus have brought in purple carpets, funky photographs and a postmodern clock without any numbers. The bedrooms have been spruced up, too, even if they aren’t quite Wallpaper* material. Some things haven’t changed, though: the fantastic prices - children can often stay for free (phone ahead to check) - and the prime location, on the Thames near tourist attractions such as the London Eye and Big Ben. Other locations include Tower Bridge (Tower Bridge Road, SE1, 0870 238 3303), Euston (1 Dukes Road, WC1H 9PJ, 0870 238 3301) and Kensington (11 Knaresborough Place, SW5 0TJ, 0870 238 3304).

Services

Bar. Restaurant. No-smoking rooms. Internet (dataport). TV. Disabled-adapted rooms.

This is good to hear - a wonderful hotel is getting even better. My wife and I stayed here in Jan '99 and enjoyed both the location and the price. Now if we could just get the USD a bit stronger versus King Sterling :-) this winter.
