Academy Hotel
If Laura Ashley opened a townhouse hotel, it might look a bit like the Academy. But the traditional country house decor is not oppressive: the look is soft, floral and summery. The library, for example, opens on to a fragrant walled garden, and the hotel’s colour scheme consists of soft pastel greens and yellows. The rooms are decked out with luxurious upholstery, thick carpets and antique furniture. Yet the old-fashioned Englishness comes with a sheen of modernity: the windows, for instance, are double-glazed to keep out the noise.
