Threadneedles
Occupying a Victorian banking hall, the former HQ of the Midland Bank, its lobby and bar area centrepieced by a magnificent atrium, Threadneedles successfully integrates modern design with monumental space. Because of the obvious constraints of developing a listed building, rooms aren’t uniform shapes and many of them still have original 19th-century windows. The decor is soothingly neutral, with Korres natural toiletries in the serene limestone bathrooms. Little stress-busting comforts reflect its business-friendly location: fleecy throws, a scented candle lit at turndown, a ‘movie treats’ menu of popcorn, ice-cream and Coke. In-house Bonds in the same block offers arguably the best cocktails in London, and one of the finest wine lists.
