Sanderson
Although now seven years old and surrounded by bland 1960s façades, the Sanderson remains one of the city’s most stylish hotels. A Schrager/Starck creation, the hotel’s sleek design verges on the surreal, starting at the lobby, with its sheer flowing curtains and Dalí red-lips sofa. The campery continues as you take the purple lift up to the generously sized guest rooms with their silver-leaf sleigh beds, piled high with cushions, and super-modern glassed-in bathroom areas with powerful steam showers and beautiful stand-alone baths. When it’s time to mingle, you can slip downstairs to join the celebs at the Long Bar and recently opened Suka restaurant, offering Zak Pelaccio’s contemporary Malaysian cuisine. A business centre is planned for 2008.
