Jenkins Hotel
‘Nothing’s changed here – not even the owners!’ was the reply of the ruddy-faced proprietor when we asked, his hand gesturing towards the restlessly changing hotel trade that lines the same sweeping crescent as the Harlingford. The Jenkins is traditional – once inside, you could be in a Sussex village guesthouse – and attracts much repeat custom. It’s been a hotel since the 1920s, so it’s fitting that an episode of Agatha Christie’s Poirot was filmed in room nine. But don’t expect a period look – just tidy, freshly painted en suite rooms with pretty bedspreads, crisp, patterned curtains and a small fridge. Guests have access to a tennis court.
