Morgan
Round the corner from the British Museum, this cheap and cheerful hotel has been run by the three Shoreditch-bred Ward siblings since the 1970s. While the place has no aspirations to boutique status, the 17 air-conditioned rooms and four suites have extras beyond basic B&B standard: modern headboards with handy inbuilt reading lamps, smart brocade drapes, bathrooms with granite sinks and – as in the top hotels – a phone by the loo. The cosy, panelled breakfast room, with its framed London memorabilia, is the perfect setting for a full English. The hotel’s annexe of spacious flats, equipped with stainless-steel kitchenettes, is one of London’s best deals.
