Ashlee House

The more established of a pair of classy hostels run by an ambitious, efficient Irish family, Ashlee House is a short walk from its sister operation, the Clink Hostel. Features standard to the Clink will soon be added here: coded card keys, trendy bed steps and so on. Not that the Ashlee lacks panache, far from it. The funky lobby is decorated with sheepskin-covered sofas and has wallpaper digitally printed with London scenes. The rooms are more basic: each one contains between two and 16 beds, and a sink. Breakfast is served in a large communal kitchen; a £5 deposit gets you a crockery and cutlery set for self-catering, set beside a comfortable communal area filled with Chesterfields. There’s a TV room with nightly film screenings and an Xbox, internet, luggage storage and laundry.
