St Martins Lane Hotel

When it opened as a Schrager property nearly a decade ago, the St Martins was the toast of the town. The flamboyant lobby was constantly buzzing, and guests giggled at Philippe Starck’s playful decor. Although Starck objects – such as the gold tooth stools in the lobby – have become positively mainstream and the space lacks the impact of its heyday, it’s still an exclusive place to stay. The all-white bedrooms have comfortable minimalism down to a T, with floor-to-ceiling windows, gadgetry secreted in sculptural cabinets and sleek limestone bathrooms with toiletries from the Agua spa at sister property Sanderson. Asia de Cuba fusion restaurant is as good-looking as ever, and the Light Bar remains dramatic. To work off the excess, there’s the trendy, industrial-look Gymbox next door, to which guests have free access. Avoid rooms on the smoking floors unless you’re a dedicated puffer.
