Weardowney Guesthouse

Amy Wear and Gail Downey are fashion models turned knitwear designers. Having moved out of the house they shared for ten years, they opened it as a quiet corner establishment for paying guests. Above their own boutique, there are just seven rooms, with either a double bed or twin; only three are en suite, the others sharing a bathroom between two rooms. Rooms are adorned with hand-knitted throws and curtains, as well as prints, art and photos from the pair’s creative associates. General improvements have been made to the running of the place – a housekeeper now takes care of laundry and breakfast. Lodgers, who can use the downstairs kitchen and pretty roof terrace, tend to be models, designers and others from the fashion industry.

We stayed here for four nights in the winter and, frankly, found it overpriced and not particularly comfortable (old beds, no reading light, smelled of smoke). It was relaxed and friendly, and is in a great location, however. But for the bill at the end of our stay, we could have saved money and been more comfortable elsewhere.
We won't be returning to Weardowney.
