Christina Ong’s chic, contemporary Metropolitan is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a set of no-holds-barred package stays – 24-carat gold offerings in Seduce Me at the Met; a London helicopter tour for Excess at the Met – completely in keeping with the upscale character of her landmark venue. The sassier, younger sister of the more staid Halkin' the Met forms part of a celeb-friendly group of hotels and resorts called COMO, long established in Bali, Bangkok and the Turks & Caicos Islands. Look no further than the destination dining spot Nobu or the paparazzi-plagued Met Bar to appreciate its credentials. Ong’s background in retail and interior design stand out in the relaxed lobby bar area and throughout the spacious rooms, soundproofed from the regular hum of Mayfair traffic and their creamy furnishings now brought out by plum carpets. All 60 TV channels and a DVD library come free of charge, as do the in-house Shambhala smellies in the marble bathrooms. The gym has recently been refitted with superior equipment, with personal trainers and massages also available. With its park-view rooms, the hotel that set a new standard for modern urban retreats is still a cut above the rest.
