Yet amid old-school luxury thrives inventive modernity. Rooms overlooking Kensington Gardens feature the inspired decor of South African owner Beatrice Tillman: the Safari suite contains tent-like draperies and leopard-print upholstery; the spectacular Tudor Suite has an elaborate inglenook fireplace, minstrels’ gallery and a pouffe concealing a pop-up TV. Butlers are on 24hr call. Full-sized Penhaligon’s toiletries are offered throughout. A recent addition (ten rooms are refurbished each year) is the infinity pool, complementing the range of treatments.
