Bentley Kempinksi
Although it isn’t large, the Bentley’s style is on a grand scale: Louis XV-style furniture, gilt mirrors, gleaming marble – 600 tons of it, all imported – and a sweeping circular staircase perfect for making an entrance. Chandeliers abound in this opulent boutique hotel, in the bedrooms as well as the lobby. The former also feature plush carpets, satin bedspreads and dark marble bathrooms with gold fittings and jacuzzi tubs. Glitzy restaurant 1880 is named after the date of the original building set on this quiet Kensington street; the Malachite Bar is a dimly lit, decadent hideaway in deep red, green and leopard-print. The real showpiece is the classical spa, with gold-laced mosaics and a full-size Turkish hammam.
