Aster House
Set in a listed building in a quiet, residential area, this award-winning B&B attempts to live up to its upmarket address. The slightly kitsch lobby leads to a lush garden, with a duckpond, and a palm-filled conservatory where guests take breakfast over the morning’s papers. The bedrooms are comfortable, with traditional floral upholstery, air-conditioning and smart marble bathrooms (ask for one with a power shower). Staff can lend guests mobile phones for their stay, and the rooms all have wireless internet connectivity. The museums and big-name shops are all close at hand. A good, affordable option.
