Windmill on the Common
Perched on the edge of Clapham Common, the Windmill is a pleasant neighbourhood pub in a building dating from 1729 – although the hotel wing behind the car park has a plaque dated 1883. No matter – this is a comfortable, reasonably priced hotel and a lovely short stroll from Clapham Common or Clapham South tube stops. The tidy bedrooms are being redecorated, ten at a time, and ten are designated ‘premium’, coming with stocked fridge and fluffy towels. A full English breakfast is provided for all guests and a three-night non-premium weekend rate of £270 per room is not a bad deal at all.
