Soho Hotel
It’s official: Kit Kemp is taking over London. The capital’s resident hotel queen has just unveiled her sixth property. And the Soho Hotel, her attempt at urban hip, is her most edgy creation yet. Critics say Kemp brings the country house to the city. But the aesthetic at the Soho Hotel is a very long way indeed from the shires. The new red-brick structure resembles a converted loft building. Some of the public rooms feature groovy colours: shocking pink or acid green, for example. Refuel, the loungey bar and restaurant, has an open kitchen and a car-themed mural. And though the bedrooms are classic Kemp - soft neutrals, bold pinstripes and traditional florals - they’ve got a contemporary edge: modern furniture, retro lighting and industrial-style windows. They’re also huge. Downstairs, there are two screening rooms for Hollywood types and treatment rooms for stressed executives.
