Laura Cubitt, dressed for bed, plays a clearly not-very-tired child. She pummels her pillow on the bare dark stage, turning this way and that to get comfortable. As sleep continues to evade the restless child, she discovers a world of light behind the curtains and a series of illuminated episodes that pierce the darkness ensue. This luminous production designed and directed by Fevered Sleep's David Harradine, whose fascination with lighting in performance informs much of his work, is a multi-textured bed-time ritual, wordless and freeform, which wraps itself around the children in the audience and holds them, fascinated, in its grasp. Age 3-4.
