New Year clubs - and some things festive
Our pick of the best New Year's parties - and some festive events
There's still time to book your New Year's clubbing experience and take advantage of advance ticket offers. As usual, some of the funkiest, cheapest clubs are taking place on New Year's Day. Here's a selection of the best events in London's three main gay villages, with something to suit most - if not all - tastes.
Grease is the word at the Candy Bar New Year's Eve Party. DJs Sandra D and guests will be playing chart tunes, there'll be some 'Grease' sing-along numbers, and don't be surprised if you spot a few Pink Ladies serving behind the bar.
For more girl-on-girl action, try the Glitterati New Year's Eve Ball. Top clubs Girl Action and Code join forces for a fun-filled party spread over three floors, with DJs playing everything from urban to indie pop.
For the boys, there's the Shadow Lounge New Year's Eve Arabian Nights Party. DJs Doug Silva, Nikos T and Miswhite will be playing commercial dance, pop remixes and Middle-Eastern inspired house. Plus there's free champagne and canapés for the first hundred through the door.
For '80s pop and dance fans there's the Carpet Burn New Year's Eve Knees Up at Eagle London with DJs Martyn Fitzgerald, Simon Kilner and special guests The Readers Wifes.
Meanwhile, over at The RVT, there's the S.L.A.G.S/Chillout New Year's Eve Glitter Ball, with DJs Simon Le Vans, Andy Almighty and Sean Sirrs playing commercial dance anthems. Plus there'll be live song and banter from Jonathan Hellyer aka The DE Experience.
Or for fans of harder music and hard bodies, there's the Beyond New Year's Day Superparty at Area. London's biggest after hours promises cutting-edge house music from DJs including special guest Pagano, plus lavish dance shows.
East London is where the alternative crowd comes out to play. On New Year's Eve there's Douche Bag NYE Apocalypse at The Star of Bethnal Green. DJs play queer synth, wonky pop, fag guitar and more.
Over at East Bloc it's Songs of Praise Extra Inches New Year's Eve Party. This queer pop night runs for a whopping ten hours. DJs for the night include The Sugalow Boys, Neil Prince and The Duchess of Pork, who'll be playing pop and dance.
Still at East Bloc, but aimed at a different crowd, on New Year's Day there's Bootylicious. London's biggest monthly gay urban night features DJs Chillz, Biggy C, Jeffrey Hinton, Sugarbear and Tyron playing R&B, urban pop and more for a mixed gay crowd.
