After a three-month refurbishment, the museum (formerly the Museum of Garden History) re-opened in November 2008 with purpose-built exhibition and education spaces designed by Dow Jones Architects. The permanent display includes a collection of antique tools exploring garden history. Outside, in the re-creation of a seventeenth-century garden, are the tombs of the Tradescants and Admiral Bligh of the Bounty.
