As part of the London 2012 Festival, a chance to see the Olympic and Paralympic medals up close and uncover the creation process, from mining the metals in Mongolia to striking the medals at the Royal Mint in Wales. The London 2012 Olympic Games medal design is by jeweller David Watkins and the Paralympic medal was created by Lin Cheung. The medals will be put in historical context with objects on display from the nineteenth-century Shropshire games (which inspired Pierre de Coubertin who founded the modern Olympics) and the 1908 and 1948 Olympic Games.
