Display of prehistoric ceramic figures from Japan, from a tradition that goes back to 12,500 BC. These abstract pottery figurines often bear some human or animal features but their significance is somewhat of a mystery, compounded by the tendency of ancient peoples to smash the dogu before scattering or burying the pieces.
