David Nash, Black Sphere, 2004 - Photo JONTY WILDE
A major exhibition of work by the British artist David Nash, who is best known for his large sculptures made from wood, which are sometimes carved or partially burned to produce a charred surface. The exhibition includes sculptures, installations, drawings and film and is shown outdoors as well as in Kew's glasshouses and exhibition spaces. Since April 2012, Nash has been working on a 'wood quarry', creating pieces for the exhibition using trees from the gardens that have come to the end of their natural life. The exhibition opens in June with outdoor works including four new pieces, some made from cork, situated around the grounds. An additional phase of the exhibition begins in October, when works that have been created on site will be displayed in Kew's Nash Conservatory.
