The influence of the horse in Middle Eastern history, the emergence of the Arabian horse and the importance of its introduction to Europe are examined in this exhibition of loans and objects from the collection, including the Standard of Ur and the four-horse chariot from the Oxus Treasure, along with first and second century AD representations of horses and photographic images of recent discoveries of rock drawings of horses from a number of sites. The show explores the horse's role in society -in peace and war, mythology and literature.
