Visions, designs and projects that have inspired the 'green city' movement during the past 150 years. Through books, art works, photographs, designs, drawings, maps and films, the exhibition looks at the ways in which city-dwellers have tried to green their urban spaces, from Victorian-era attempts to improve conditions in industrialised areas to today's transformation of urban centres by landscape architects. The show tells the story of the first 'garden cities', in Letchworth and Hampstead, explores how wild flower meadows sprang up in WWII bomb sites, and looks at the impact of today's community movements, such as guerrilla gardening.
