'Fly Agaric (Amanita muscaria)' by Alexander Viazmensky
This new gallery adjacent to the Marianne North Gallery expands Kew's collections of botanical art. Sherwood, a botanist and author, has amassed one of the best collections of contemporary botanical art in the world and, alongside Kew's 200,000-strong collection of drawings, paintings and artefacts dating from the eighteenth century onwards, this will form the basis of exhibitions in the new building, designed by Walters and Cohen Architects to provide a flexible and – more importantly for the many fragile works – climate controlled space. This show features highlights from both collections by some of the greats of the field like GD Ehret and Pierre-Joseph Redouté, many of which are on public display for the first time. It's also your last chance to visit the Marianne North Gallery before it closes for restoration.
