  • Using historical material and personal memorabilia this exhibition illustrates the involvement of black men and women from the West Indies and Britain during WWI and WWII, and examines how their experiences helped to establish Britain's contemporary Caribbean populations. Exhibits include documents relating to Walter Tull, the Tottenham Hotspur footballer who became the first black British army officer in 1917, and pages from the passenger list of the MV Empire Windrush, which arrived in Britain 60 years ago carrying 492 West Indian passengers who had travelled to Britain in search of work.
