Hip hop hits new heights at this year's UK festivals, as nearly every member of the rap elite is set to take to the stage this summer. Contemporary kings Kanye, Pharrell, Dizzee and Drake, along with old-school legends De La Soul, Roots Manuva and Public Enemy will all drop it like it's very hot this season.

2014's best festivals for hip hop lovers

Brownstock

Line-up includes Dizzee Rascal, De La Soul, Roots Manuva, Jack Beats, DJ EZ, P Money, Goldie Lookin' Chain.

What's the deal? It's the tenth year for this small, family-run festival, which the organisers describe as an overgrown house party. There's a healthy mix of established bands and unsigned acts – covering hip hop, rock, indie and dance – alongside comedy and art. Or you can play your own tunes at the piano bar. Or just forget about music altogether and play chess, mudwrestle or go bungee jumping.

Bestival

  • Critics choice

Line-up includes Outkast, Busta Rhymes, Chic with Nile Rodgers, Foals, Beck, Disclosure, Major Lazer, Skream, London Grammar, Paloma Faith, Basement Jaxx, Derrick Carter, Candi Staton, Sam Smith, Wild Beasts, Clean Bandit, Caribou, Sven Väth, Eats Everything, Boys Noize, 1-800 Dinosaur, Chvrches, Laura Mvula, Annie Mac, Route 94, Bicep, Chase & Status, Krystal Klear, Dusky + more.

What's the deal? The festival with the best party vibe this side of Glastonbury returns for four glorious days of live music and premier-league DJs. Making the most of Bestival's location on the Isle of Wight, this year's theme is 'Desert Island Disco' – which, from what we can tell, means Club Tropicana all weekend long (but without the free drinks). We're hoping for some tiki-style fancy dress from headliners Beck (Thursday), Outkast (Friday) and Foals (Saturday), but most of all from disco don himself Nile Rodgers, performing with the ever-funky Chic to finish the festival with a glittery bang on the Sunday night.
