The real-life actress Adriana Lecouvreur died in 1730 after becoming embroiled in a tragic love triangle. Francesco Cilea's four act opera is inspired by her story. David McVicar’s sumptuous 2010 production lovingly recreates the baroque scenery of the eighteenth-century comédie-Française where she worked. Angela Gheorghiu and Hrachuhi Bassenz star in the first revival of his heartbreaking classic.
