London Jazz Festival opening night vocal spectacular draws numerical inspiration from years ending in the number 8 – which coincidentally link some of the biggest movers and shakers of 20th century songwriting including Irving Berlin (b. 1888) and George Gershwin. Exploring these composers' most iconic works, the music will be contrastingly performed in the powerful soul styles of Anderson, Carroll and Watkiss, and the smoky tones of Gardot and Tobin.
