This artfully bombastic Manchester-based 14-piece big band band debunk any stuffy notions that such brass-heavy units can be anything but cool. Conducter/composer Ben Cottrel brillianly combines narrative drama with a deft blend of hip hop, cop show funk, expansive modal jazz and the odd Radiohead cover, all swept along by some truly exciting young players possessed of a rare onstage energy and joy. A must-see live.
