The third of three very rare live dates from Stephin Merritt's wonderful latterday New York outfit, Merritt's Eyore-ish baritone and wry wit with variously disco, country and show tune tinted art-pop. January's 'Distortion' – an album on which every instrument, from guitar to piano and accordion, was made to feed back – couldn't quite match the sweet melodies of 2004's 'i' or the breathtaking breadth of '69 Love Songs', and some thought it an arch concept too far, but these live shows are still a very exciting proposition indeed.
