We say Led by musical masterminds Tahita Bulmer and Andy Spence, this mysterious London five-piece formed late in 2003 with an agenda to make London dance. Last year they released two seven-inch singles on obscure electronica label Tirk, both of which sold like hot cakes, helped by airplay from BBC 6 Music who (like us) particularly fell in love with ‘The Get Go’, a seductive slab of New Order-meets-ESG disco punk. If you’re fond of the funked-up and punky strains of Brooklyn, New Young Pony Club should be a welcome addition to your collection.

They say Bulmer and Spence: ‘We have kept our website [www.wearepony.com] purposefully devoid of information because we want people to hear the music first and let that fuel their curiosity. There are far too many bands shoving it down people’s throats these days. We want them to hunt us down because they’re interested in the music, and it’s worked. People seem to be really hungry for what we do. We’re kind of inspired by The Rapture and all the DFA stuff. As soon as James Murphy came out with LCD Soundsystem we were like: Fucking hell, this is what needs to happen. He was touching upon all the same influences we had and we decided we had to do something like that ourselves.’
Look out for The single, ‘Get Lucky’ (Noise Records), is out on March 6. An album and live dates should follow soon afterwards.

    Dear Time out Team,
I am very glad that time out exists and find it one of the most helpful websites for going out in london. But one thing which strikes me is the fact that the ads you guys are putting on your website are more and more taking over the whole window I am looking at. that could even be acceptable. But imagine you are looking for some nice event and then around a 3sq cm patch are at least two moving images which show a TV advertisement for a beer brand or some software solutions. Frankly speaking: how the hell can I still enjoy to look at this site when constantly harrased by stuff which I dont want to see? Will your website one day end up with 80% of the screen occupied by at least 5,6 or seven or even more different advertisement clips ? I know the competition is hard but really , you dont want the time out website to end up being a pinboard with a little bit of nightlife guide at the bottom. Think about that guys...
good luck and best regards Martin
