    Best London gigs of 2007

The year's defining live music moments

    1 Sonic Youth ‘Daydream Nation’
    Roundhouse, Aug 30
The eternally revered art-rockers revisited their classic album as part of the Don’t Look Back series, leading to a London-wide hipstergasm.
    What we said then

    2 Prince
    O2 Arena, Sept 21
Although some shows were marred by excessive funk jams and irritating medleys, the first and last dates of Prince’s mammoth 21-night run were a Joy 2 Behold.

    3 LCD Soundsystem
    Cargo, Mar 5
Unveiling their new album in an uncommonly small venue, James Murphy and friends (including Hot Chip’s Alexis Doyle on guitar), put on one hell of a party.
    What we said then

    4 Wu-Tang Clan
    Hammersmith Apollo, July 9
The Tang played a good-humoured, sprawling and increasingly shit-faced set on RZA’s birthday which ranks as one of the most enjoyable, if not professional, hip hop shows the capital has seen.
    What we said then

    5 ‘Wouldn’t You Miss Me?’
    Barbican, May 10
Star-packed Syd Barrett memorial show curated by Joe Boyd and featuring the likes of Damon Albarn, Robyn Hitchcock and – yes! – Pink Floyd covering their favourite Barrett tunes. Although it was The Aliens’ Gordon Anderson, with the Sense Of Sound Choir, who stole the show.

Britney Spears Comeback! She produced the best album of her career, but she did not promote. It was surely a multi-platinum.
