After a decade spent blurring the lines between electro and rock (and between boys and girls), transgressive Canadian heroine Peaches has adapted her songs into a musical, the magnificently titled ‘Peaches Does Herself’. In advance of the film and a London gig, our own Oliver Keens does Peaches. Journalistically.

1 The film is a gift. A gift to herself.
‘The aim was to celebrate ten years of what I’ve done. It was a theatrical play that we filmed and edited together. It’s an over-the-top, camp present that I’ve always wanted to give myself.’

2 She can’t stand luvvies.
‘I went to school to become a theatre director but I dropped out because I didn’t want to work with actors. I thought I’d have a heart attack by the time I was 30. Theatre lacked the kind of immediacy I found in music.’

3 Her 2010 one-woman show, ‘Peaches Christ Superstar’, didn’t impress Andrew Lloyd Webber.
‘I didn’t do it to make fun of him. People my age love it from their childhood. I think it’s just that I didn’t generate enough money with my idea. Maybe it was all about money?’

4 Her transsexual co-star Danni Daniels had a classy intro line.
‘He said, “Hey Peaches, I lost my virginity in the back of a truck when I was 14 to your music and now I can shake my dick and my tits.”’

5 She’s able to fly under the radar.
‘I have this great middle ground because I’m not super-pop or super-famous so I never get restrictions. I’ve played my show in Jakarta before an audience of women wearing burkas, while Lady Gaga wasn’t even allowed to perform.’
