Each of the dozen tracks on this solo, self-produced debut from one half of Mobb Deep bears the ‘explicit’ warning. No surprise, really, given such swaggering, ego-pumped titles as ‘Get Off My Dick’ and ‘I’m The Boss’. Regulation gangsta braggadocio and heavyweight beats dominate, but strands of Stax-y soul, Studio One-styled funk and orchestral pop (as on ‘What’s Poppin’ Tonite’ and ‘Class By Myself’) help elevate the dark and grimy ‘The Kush’ above similar offerings from Havoc’s peers.
