Enigmatic south London dubstep auteur Burial returns with more seductive dread and, if such a thing is imaginable, ‘Untrue’ is even more radiantly desolate than his 2006 debut. This time, a multitude of manipulated vocal samples haunt the beautifully textured soundscapes like unquiet phantoms, while unsettling centrepiece ‘Etched Headplate’ features disembodied strings, distant explosions and some of the most uneasy atmospherics since Tricky’s ‘Maxinquaye’. Another downbeat masterpiece which deserves wider attention.
