Rio-born bossa adventurer edges closer to the middle ground after the comparatively leftfield ‘Horse And Fish’ (2004). On the surface at least. Under the pretty arpeggio and gentle jazz-funk, the New York resident, who’s worked with messrs Byrne, Eno and Ribot (who pops up here), lays down subtle discordance and myriad string effects, creating an emotional wobble to accompany a yearning for loved ones and his home (‘the cold is killing me’, he sings on ‘O Batuque’).
