No one’s better at being Mark E Smith than Mark E Smith – after all, he’s had years of practice – but Daniel Patrick Quinn comes close. His sprechgesang narratives are crucial, but they’re not the whole picture. That hangs at a decidedly odd angle, taking in motorik funk, proggy jazz and chamber/art pop and features perfectly poised sax, trumpet and clarinet. The gas canisters are nicely underplayed, too.
