  • The woogly wonder of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop – which began 50 years ago – is revealed here in all its analogue electronic glory via the work of John Baker. As one third of the Maida Vale dynasty (alongside David Cain and Delia Derbyshire), he produced a huge body of theme tunes, incidental music and station idents, 49 samples of which appear on Vol 1. Vol 2 (released on August 25) compiles 40 pieces of his non-BBC work; together, the albums constitute a fascinating homage to a true sound pioneer.
