In spite of their influence, shuffle popsters The Beta Band always struggled in the face of indifference, which troubled mainman Steve Mason. Here he revisits his solo project after that band’s split and, in spite of an all too erratic journey infused by dancehall, psych folk and Kraftwerk, his languid voice still shines. Sadly, with rumours of mental illness surrounding Mason, it might be the last we hear from him in a while.
