As the US synth-pop field becomes overcrowded with slavish fans of Devo and Depeche Mode, congrats to The Fever for swerving off in a radical new direction, while abandoning none of their original twitchy charm. They’ve hired Dr John producer Steve Rivette for their second LP, adding swampy blues, Lynchian atmospherics and New Orleans hoodoo to their eccentric pop mix. Lead single ‘Redhead’ suggests an unlikely supergroup featuring Dick Dale, Nick Cave and Gogol Bordello and is just one of this LP’s many highlights.
