After 14 years and four studio albums, Modesto, California’s finest have decided to call it a day. Maybe they’re slightly demob-happy because this valedictory statement is as purposeful as they’ve sounded for some time, mixing vibrant, kaleidoscopic pop with a gorgeous languor reminiscent of their career-defining album ‘The Sophtware Slump’. Singer Jason Lytle is relocating to the wilds of Montana but let’s hope he won’t be a stranger because on this evidence, there’s plenty more to come.
