Released on Super Furry Animals’ similarly-monikered Placid Casual label, ‘Omni’ sees SFA’s resident keyboard boffin, Cian Ciaran, team up with Kev Tame of fellow Welsh act Big Leaves. But although Ciaran is the man responsible for SFA’s bangin’ techno moments, the vibe on these largely instrumental songs is more mellow. In turn playful, twisted, breezy and sinister, these deftly delivered synth soundscapes are rich in ideas, melody and warmth. Positive proof that Gruff Rhys isn’t the only supremely talented man in SFA.
